The FDA CDRH project is a 6-story 425,000 sq. ft. office building supporting the Food and Drug Administration's Center for Devices and Radiological Health. The building is located in the FDA's White Oak facility in Silver Spring, Maryland and represents the fourth project Pierce Associates has done in this FDA facility.
The building mechanical system is composed of (46) air-handling units, (24) fan coil units, (713) VAV boxes, (6) pumps, 800' of finned radiation, over 17,000 ft. of HVAC piping and 766,000 lbs. of ductwork. Chilled water and hot water for cooling and heating are supplied from the facility's central utility plant through a tunnel system to the FDA CDRH Office Building. The plumbing system consists of (493) fixtures and drains, (2) booster pumps, (9) hot water generators, (4) sump pumps, (7) circulators and over 40,000 ft. of piping.
